The SCHS football team lost a heart-breaker on Friday night, November 14th, to Garden Plain, the reigning state champions. The Beavers led 17-6 with 2 minutes to go, only to see the Owls score two touchdowns and win 20-17. We end with a tremendous 10-2 record for the season. Many congratulations to Coach O'Neil and his coaching staff, along with quarterbacks Dylan Stucky and Ron Baker, and their wonderful teammates. Special kudos to Alex Swan, "Player of the Game" for KIUL radio. He and Levi Kuntzsch had individual touchdowns, and, in addition, Marshall Anliker received a two-point conversion. Our final three points came from a field goal by Jordan Habinger. We are very proud of you all!!!
Cross Country Places Again
Congratulations to the SCHS varsity boy's x-country team for placing 2nd out of 12 teams at the Hugoton Invitational on Saturday, September 20, 2008. Medal winners in the varsity boy's race were Brenton Carson - 5th, Miles Pearson - 10th, and Sam McDaniel - 14th. Caitlin Beckman medaled in the girls' varsity race, placing 13th. In the JV boy's race, Chris Davis also earned a medal, placing 11th. 9.26.08
Congratulations to the Scott Community High School Boys Cross Country team for placing 2nd at the Goodland Invitational on September 4, 2008. Top finishers were Miles Pearson-3rd in the freshman/sophomore race and Brenton Carson - 6th in the junior/senior boys division.
Also congratulations to Magin Mayer for placing 12th in the freshman/sophomore girls race. Caitlin Beckman made a very strong showing, placing 2nd in the junior senior girls division. This is a great start to another successful season for this team, coached by Kevin Reese. (Merilee Epler---9.5.08)

Members of the Price and Sons Comet League team have won their season and tournament championships with an undefeated season. Justin Miller Drafted by Los Angeles Dodgers
Justin Miller, 19-year-old son of Gary and Julie Miller, has been selected as the 206th overall pick in the 2007 Major League Baseball draft. Kuntzsch and Robinson Selected for Northwest All-Star Game
The annual NorthWest Kansas All-Star Game rosters for 2007 have been announced. The rosters are composed of outstanding high-school basketball players located in the northwest Kansas area. The game will be held April 1st at the Community Building in Colby, Kansas. The women’s game will begin at 5 p.m. and the men’s game will start at 7 p.m.
Lauren Robinson, daughter of Chris and Lynette Robinson, has been slected as part of the "Light" team. Lauren played for the SCHS girls for four years and was an outstanding point guard. Congratulations to Lauren!
Corbin Kuntzsch, son of Fred and Trudi Kuntzsch, is a member of the men's all-star team. Corbin was also selected to play in the Dodge City Shoot-Out All-Star game. That game was held in mid-March. Congratulations to Corbin on his outstanding high school basketball career. He is a true "all-around" athlete. (I had both of these students in geometry when they were sophomores. SCHS Boys' Basketball is 3A State Runner-Up for 2007
The Beavers were defeated in the Championship game at state basketball by Wichita Collegiate. But, as we know about our team and fans, our school was awarded (for the second year in a row) the Sportsmanship Award for the tournament. Way to go, Scott City players, coaches, and fans.

Antillon is State Champion Wrestler at 103
Results from the 3-2-1A Kansas State Wrestling Tournament at Hays are in, and Scott City has another state champion wrestler. Paco Antillon is the 3A State Champion at 103 pounds. The Scott City team came in with a 4th place team finish in the tournament. Other wrestlers placing at state are Nick Kough (2nd at 145), Dustin Warta (3rd at 140), Lakin Dreiling (3rd at 152), and Dillon Stucky (6th at 112). Western Gymnastics Shines in Manhattan
The Western Gymnastics team, comprised of young ladies from Oakley, Dighton, Deerfield, Garden City, and Scott City competed at the Tropical Getaway meet sponsored by Gymnastics Plus of Manhattan this past Saturday, February 17, 2007. Kiara Budd, age 9, logged her best meet ever by placing first in three of four events and taking first all-around with a score of 36.3. Level 4 team girls, age 9 cleaned house by taking first, second, and third places in the beam event, giving Western Gymnastics its first ever 1-2-3 finish in that event. Although judging was tough, the girls performed well with Cayleigh Ramsey placing first in beam, Cara Hopkins – first in Floor, Danean Metheny – first in Vault, and Emma Price – first in Beam. The team is working to prepare for their next meet which will be held in Salina on March 17.

SCHS Wrestlers Triumphant at MSAA League Tournament
The SCHS Wrestling team won the Mid-States Athletic Association League Championship on Saturday, February 3rd, on their home turf. Congratulations! The MSAA league consists of Scott City, Ulysses, Pratt, TMP-Marion, and Larned.
Scott City went 4-0 in the tournament with wins over Larned (72-9, TMP (72-9), Ulysses (68-12), Pratt (46-24), and Larned (?). Scott City athletes placed as follows: 103 Antillon, Champion; 112 Stucky, Champion; 119 George, Champion; 125 Contreras, 2nd; 130 M. "It's a Great Day for Football"
Tim McGonagle has sent a link to his website, which has every schedule and every score for every high school that plays football in Kansas. This fall will be his 3rd year with this website. He is also putting together a preseason high school football magazine called PREGAME, primarily for the western end of the state. It pertains to schools just east and north of Salina to the Colorado border---a total of 116 schools. This publication features the commentaries of several writers from around the state. Tim's partner owns the Lincoln Sentinel and the Chapman papers. The publication will be FREE and available in those businesses that have purchased advertising in the publication---about August 1st to the 14th.
Men's 4X800 Win State Championship
Members of the Scott Community High School's 4 X 800 meter relay team came home from the state track meet in Wichita with GOLD! With a slim 0.04 second lead over Baldwin, SCHS claimed their win with a time of 8:16.54. Relay members are: Cody Amack, Chase Thompson, Cosme Chavez, Trace Kendrick, Ian Huck, and Brandon Snow.
Other state performances include a 7th place finish for the Women's 4 X 800 meter relay, with a time of 10:12.49. Members of the relay are: Andrea Scheuerman, Tecie Turner, Shelby Kite, Alex Antillon, Janelle Mason, and Jennifer Graham. Johanna Holovach placed 14th in the Women's Triple Jump with a jump of 33' 7". Another Scott City jumper, Chance Chelemedos, made a 19' 6" long jump to finish in 15th place.
Chase Thompson is an iron man! Not only was he part of the relay, but he also placed 7th in the 1600 meter run in 4:41.47. Then he ran in the 3200 meter, placing 10th with a time of 12:05.03. I think all of these athletes deserve some applause, especially running in 99 degree heat and 35 m.p.h. winds.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association has awarded the Scott Community High School Boys' Basketball team a plaque designating them with the KSHSAA "Sportsmanship" Award. Two teams in 4A were given this honor, with the second being Rose Hill, the team Scott City defeated in the semi-finals of the state tournament. Our congratulations to Coach O'Neil, Coach Holt, and Coach Johnson for their leadership and to the team for their well-rounded season---Champions and "Gentlemen". (3/22/06)

Tim Peintner, SCHS senior forward, was selected as a member of the 4A All-State First Team by the Wichita Eagle. He is joined by his teammate, junior guard Corbin Kuntzsch, who is a member of the 4A All-State Second Team. Chosen for Honorable Mention is senior Justin Miller. SCHS Boys are 2006 4A State Basketball Champions!

The SCHS Boys Basketball team returned from the state tournament in Salina on March 11, 2006 with the 4A State Championship! They recorded wins over Spring Hill (74-55) in the first round, Rose Hill (57-50) in the semi-finals, and Belle Plaine (71-52) in the championship game. Coaches are Glenn O'Neil, Scott Holt, and Jerry Johnson. Tema members are Tim Peintner, David Heyd, Justin Miller, Colby Dunagan, Drew Crist, Corbin Kuntzsch, Gabe Acosta, Chance Chelemedos, Matt Summer, Aric Reed, Trace Kendrick, and Ross Strube.
