Louise Schwanke to Celebrate 95th!

(A note from Sidney Janzen---3.9.10)   "Just wanted to let you know that Louise Schwanke, who is now in the nursing home, is celebrating her 95th birthday April 6. Her family is requesting a card shower for her and I thought maybe you could include this in your Scott City News. She and her late husband Orville provided loads of leisure-time entertainment for the community, having owned and operated the Skating Rink, Bowling Alley and Swimming Pool. Her family will appreciate your help. Thanks!"

(I hope you'll participate in this card shower for Louise.  She is a gracious lady.  M.)

Patternmaster Inventors Busy in Scott City

If you haven't kept close track of Mike and Marilyn See, you might have missed the fact that they are fully in the swing of production of the Patternmaster choke tubes that Mike invented.  What a neat story---and a great product and company!  Scott City should be very proud of their accomplishments and work.  That, and the fact the the Chukar Classic is being brought to this community throught their efforts.  You also need to catch up on the television appearances by Mike on the Outdoor Channel.

Here is a link to the Patternmaster website.  Congratulations to the Sees!                                               2.10.10

Bill Fry and Dale Sharpe Honored by Kansas Wrestling Hall of Fame

On October 21st, Bill Fry and Dale Sharpe were honored by the Kansas National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum.  The 4th Annual Dinner and Induction Ceremony was held in the Garden City Plaza Hotel ballroom.  Both Dale and Bill were the recipients of Lifetime Service Awards.  Making the evening even more special for Bill was the presence of all of his children:  Keven, Doug, Dan, Wendy, and Devi.

The Lifetime Service Award is a special recognition of individuals who have volunteered countless hours of their time to the sport of wrestling and to the young people of their communities.  Bill Fry has been a sports broadcaster for a very long time---giving of his time, not only to wrestling, but to football, basketball, and other youth sports in the community.  He was a gymnastics coach and trained many fine gymnasts in the area.  (I can remember three terrific ones that I went to school with---Gwen Marmon Nelson, Tonni Hoeme Numrich, and Wendy Randall.)

Dale Sharpe was also presented with a Lifetime Service Award at the dinner.  I don't think I have ever been to a wrestling event in this town and not seen Dale busy either officiating, coaching, helping, or giving kids encouragement in general.  He personifies the sport of wrestling.  Dale is an expert---a mentor---a true professional.  (I am trying to find a photo of Dale from the event.  I hope to have one soon.)

Congratulations to Bill Fryon this award and a big "thank you" to him for all of the influence he has had on athletic endeavors in the Scott City community!  And congratulations also to Dale Sharpe.  His life focus has been on wrestling and his contribution of hours to the sport and to the youth who are involved are priceless.                                                                                                                                                                                    (11.3.06)
