Mike Leach is "Buddy" to Lucky Clover 4-H Club

Mike Leach surrounded by his 4-H "buddies"---Lucky Clover 4-H Club

The Lucky Clover 4-H Club feels privileged to have Mike Leach as their "Buddy".  This community service project, which began 14 years ago when the club decided to give assistance to Ruth Jackson, has provided help for Mike for the past eight years.  He recently moved into a new apartment with the club's cheerful aid.  Mike was a member of the Lucky Clover 4-H Club in his youth.  The club welcomes him to their meetings on occasion, as well as bringing him gifts and providing things he needs.

This is another awesome way in which the youth of this community honor all of us.     (Provided by Linda Dunagan---8.23.08)

Genelle Krehbiel Honored by KSU Extension

Scott County's own Genelle Krehbiel was recently selected by Kansas State University Extension as the "Classified Employee of the Year" for County and Area Extension Offices.  She has been the driving force (and keeper of knowledge) at the Scott County Extension Office since March of 1982.  Genelle is who you turn to for a smile, as well as how to find out about anything to do with 4-H.  She is the mother of five sons (she deserves a gold star for that also!) and the wife of Jim.  Genelle is a proud grandmother, a cow hand, and a very, very nice person.  Bill and I have a special attachment to the Krehbiel's youngest son, Kurt, who worked for us from his freshman year in high school throughout his years in college.  They are a special family.  Genelle---Congratulations!  You are the main reason everything works so well for the extension projects in this county.                         2.4.07

Two 4-H Clubs Help Out Our Soldiers in Iraq

The Country Cousins 4-H club participated in the "Stockings for the Troops" program sponsored by the Red Cross in Garden City. Robin Witzke coordinated it for her husband's unit in Iraq.  Robin is a friend of Deidra Haupt, who's son Carson is a new member in the club.

Country Cousins and the Lucky Charms, the after-school 4-H club, assembled and contributed 25 stockings. Stockings were filled with various items including popcorn packs, razors, tooth brushes & paste, DVDs, cards, candy, socks, etc.  Each stockings has a Christmas card with a picture of the member who assembled that stocking or a club photo (attached). The kids hope to hear back from some of the soldiers. The club also donated $2 per stockings for shipping expenses.

Robin's goal was 200 stockings. She ended up with 743!! There was also an article on front of the GC Telegram, Nov. 21,2006, showing them shipping their projects. Another group in Scott City also participated.  Deidra reported that she received several other stockings locally in Scott City other than just from the 4-H clubs club! She was thrilled with the local response.      (Provided by Kay Harkness---12.13.06)
