Fall 2011 College Honors and Degrees

Hutchinson Community College has announced the honor rolls for the Fall 2011 semester, including grades through the end of the inter-term session.  One thousand one hundred ninety-four students have been honored with selection to the two honor roll listings, with 582 achieving the Vice President’s Honor Roll with at least a 3.5 grade point average for the semester.  Caitlin Beckman has been named to the Vice President's Honor Roll;  (Students with 3.5 to 3.999 grade-point averages).

WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY FALL GRADS LIST: Local students complete degrees at Wichita State University More than 925 students completed their degrees at Wichita State University in fall 2011.  Undergraduate students who have attained a grade point average of 3.9 out of a possible 4.0 received the summa cum laude award; those with an average of 3.55 received the magna cum laude award; and those with an average of 3.25 received the cum laude.

Students from Scott City earning their degrees are:  Kelley R Benero, Bachelor of Business Admin., Accounting;  Trace A Kendrick, B.A. in Sport Management, Sport Management, Summa Cum Laude;

WICHITA STATE UNIVERSITY FALL DEAN'S HONOR ROLL: Local students earn distinction at Wichita State University Wichita State University has announced the names of more than 2,150 students who were on the WSU dean's honor roll for Fall 2011.  To be included on the dean's honor roll, a student must be enrolled full time (at least 12 credit hours) and earn at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.  Students from Scott City earning these honors are:  Shawna M Farber; Michelle J Hickey; Trace A Kendrick; Kaycee L Miller; Brett M Summers; and Amy M Williams.

OTTAWA UNIVERSITY FALL DEAN'S LIST: Ottawa University is pleased to announce those students named to the Fall 2011 Dean's List.  To qualify for the Dean's List, students must be degree-seeking; have earned a minimum of 24 hours over the preceding two semesters at Ottawa University; and earned a semester grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.  To qualify for the Dean's Honor Roll, students must be degree-seeking; have earned a minimum of 12 semester hours during the preceding semester; and earned a semester grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.  Kaitlyn M. Thornburg was named to the Dean's Honor Roll.

WILLIAM JEWELL COLLEGE FALL DEAN'S LIST: Scott City Resident Named to Dean's List at William Jewell College Liberty, Missouri - Parker Artz was named to the Dean's List at William Jewell College for the 2011 fall semester. Parker was a senior church music major during the Fall semester at the college located in Liberty, Mo.  To qualify for the Dean's List, a student must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average while carrying 14 or more semester hours.

WASHBURN UNIVERSITY FALL DEAN'S HONOR ROLL LIST: Washburn University has released the names of students who were named to the Fall semester Dean's Honor Roll. To be named to the list, a student must be enrolled in at least 12 graded semester credit hours and attain a semester grade point average between 3.4 and 3.99.  Karli Danielle Cooper and Jacob Adam Rios of Scott City are listed on the Dean's Honor Roll.

Emahizer Earns Nursing Degree

Southwestern College held Commencement exercises Sunday, May 10, in Winfield, Kan. Nearly 750 students were eligible to participate. The ceremony was preceded by receptions for graduates and their families, and the Order of the Mound honorary society induction which represents the top 10% academically.

Southwestern College is a private institution granting undergraduate and graduate degrees and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. More than 1,900 students attend classes at the main Winfield campus, at five professional studies sites in Kansas and Oklahoma, or online around the world.

Earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree is Shellie S. Emahizer from Scott City.

Dirks Receives NP Degree

TOPEKA –   Megan Dreiling Dirks, formerly of Scott City, SCHS Class of 2004, will receive a Master of Science in Nursing Degree, with a family nurse practitioner major, at the Washburn University School of Nursing commencement event at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16 in Lee Arena, Petro Allied Health Center.

She is the daughter of Douglas and Denise Dreiling and the daughter-in-law of Rick and LaNora Dirks, all of Scott City. She and her husband, Aaron, reside in Ottawa.

Wright is Spring HCC Graduate

Hutchinson, Kan. –Hutchinson Community College has announced the 2011 list of graduates.

Sixty-one individuals received an Associate of Science degree at the graduation ceremonies held Friday, May 13. One hundred and thirty-one individuals received a Certificate of Completion at the graduation ceremonies.

Receiving her degree is Ericka Dawn Marie Wright.

Berry is Phi Kappa Phi

Daughter of Scott City residents inducted into Phi Kappa Phi national honor society
 
TOPEKA –Michelle (Berry) Heusi, of Topeka, was one of 44 Washburn University students recently inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society.
Persons elected to membership include juniors in the top 7.5 percent of their class and seniors in the top 10 percent of their class, along with outstanding graduate students, faculty, professional staff and alumni.  Phi Kappa Phi, founded in 1897, is the nation's oldest all-discipline honor society. The mission of the organization is to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.
 
A graduate of Scott Community High School, Heusi is a pursuing a master of science in nursing degree. She is the daughter of Denton and Karen Berry of Scott City.
