The KSHSAA Regional Solo and Small Ensemble was held on 9 April 2011 at Dodge City High School. Students from all over Southwest Kansas competed in vocal solo, vocal ensemble, band and orchestral solo, and band and orchestral ensemble. SCHS students had a highly successful day, returning with 21 "I" ratings. That means that 21 events will move on to state competition at Southeast Saline High School in Gypsum on 30 April 2011! The quality of music produced by the music programs at Scott Community High School is incredible. Congratulations to Vocal Music Director Amy Norris, accompanist Beth Hess, and Band Directors Shawn Henderson and Joanna Freed.
Here are the results:
Vocal Solo: "I" or "Superior" ratings were earned by MacKenzie Penka, Wyle Yeager, Rebekah Anliker, Breanna Emahizer, Alex Myers, Katelin Murphy, Brenna Beeson, Jessie Woofter, Catherine Huck, Callan Rice, Lane Turner, and Evelyn Craig. "II" or "Excellent" ratings were given to Andrea Smith, Chelsi Hess, Rachel Anliker, and Shannon Blair.
Vocal Small Ensemble: All of the SCHS small ensembles earned "I" ratings!
Encore (SATB): Members are Jessie Woofter, Rebekah Anliker, Amelia Vasko, Karita Geist, Brenna Beeson, Chelsi Hess, Tom Jenkins, Wyle Yeager, Lane Turner, Alex Myers, and Malachi Schroeder.
Sugar and Spice (SSA): Members are Krista Kucharik, Katelin Murphy, Breanna Emahizer, Callan Rice, Rachel Anliker, Andrea Smith, Kelsey Kuckelman, Leiken Hickey, Jenee Davis, Katie Brau, Ashley Simmons, Jordann Becker, Evelyn Craig, Catherine Huck, Katie Hopkins, and Shannon Blair.

Instrumental Small Ensemble: "I" rating to Percussion Ensemble: Matt Gamble, Katherine Levins, Callan Rice, Carl Minnix, Luke Minnix, Chris Green, Blake Gillett, and Shealene Bauer.
"II" rating to Flute Trio: Jordann Becker, Karen Gonzales, and Danielle Hutton.
Miss Brenna Beeson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tony Beeson, has earned another "I" rating and gold medal at KSHSAA State Piano Contest. Brenna studies with Nelda Blackwell. Her competition piece this year was "The Little White Donkey" composed by Jacques-Francois Ibert. Well done, Brenna!
Congratulations to the following SCHS singers: Alex Myers (Senior and 2nd year State Choir Member), Catherine Huck (Junior), Evelyn Craig (Junior) and Jessie Woofter (Junior). The four SCHS students auditioned in the fall of 2010 and were selected as members of the Kansas Music Education Association State Honor Choir. From February 24th to February 26th, these vocalists will rehearse with 200 Kansas high school singers from across the state, directed by the renowned choral clinician, Dr. Craig Jessop from Utah State University. The State Honor Choir will present a concert on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Century II Concert Hall in Wichita, KS at 1:15 p.m. Tickets are available for this concert online at www.wichitatix.com .
Further congratulations also go to the SCHS select girls’ ensemble, Sugar and Spice. An audition recording of this group was submitted last spring to a Kansas Music Education Association Inservice Workshop performance committee. Sugar and Spice was selected to perform at this prestigious event. The vocal group is preparing a 25 minute program for music teachers across the state. The performance is Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 8:15 a.m. in the Hyatt Hotel Ballroom, Room 203, next to Century II Convention Hall. Admission is free. Sugar and Spice members are Katelin Murphy, Krista Kucharik, Callan Rice, Breanna Emahizer, Rachel Anliker, Leiken Hickey, Katie Brau, Kelsey Kuckelman, Andrea Smith, Jenee Davis, Ashley Simmons, Shannon Blair, Catherine Huck, Evelyn Craig, Katie Hopkins, Jordann Becker.

Wendy’s will contribute 20% of their sales Monday, December 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. to the Music Club Scholarship fund. The SCHS Vocal and Band concert is that night also. So take you family friends out to eat at Wendy's and then go enjoy a wonderful Christmas concert!!!
