(From Katie Eisenhour) I want to take a minute to pass along a reminder of the Scott County Arts Council’s annual Valentine Spectacular. It promises to capture the audience with a DIFFERENT approach this year…but yet another fantastic evening of fine arts entertainment can be expected!!
** “Shirley Valentine” a one-hour play performed by SCHS alumnus Nancy Marcy is sure to be a hit!! If you haven’t seen the spunk Nancy brings to a performance….be sure to take this in!!
** Loren Janzen will dazzle the audience as the emcee for the “Spectacular”.
** The Last Rezort have prepared a selection of memorable tunes from days gone by. I heard some people think this event is a dance for Valentine’s sweethearts…..not so. It is the perfect night for Singles and Couples alike!! It is POSSIBLE to dance….but don’t stay away because you’re not a “dancer”!
** Some special musical selections will feature vocalists this year!! You can expect to hear some sultry and swingin’ tunes from Alan Graham, Jeannette Raynes, Craig Ramsey, Julie Mason and even me.
** The Majestic will start serving their delicious buffet at 6pm, with some music to set the mood.
** The play “Shirley Valentine” begins officially at 7:30pm
** Intermission features delectable desserts
** The final hour features the jazzy and soulful melodies as only the guys from the Last Rezort can deliver. Solos will be scattered throughout….and dancing is welcome…and even encouraged…but not mandatory!
There are still some tickets available….so contact Anne Crane to reserve YOURS (872-5738). Go with friends…or take your sweetheart….but don’t stay at home on the couch!!
An excellent opportunity to view and learn about Scott County history awaits you on 2 October 2011.

The new Jerry Thomas Gallery and Collection at The El Quartelejo Museum in Scott City, Kansas is currently hosting the 2011 First District Congressional Art Competition. You are welcome to visit the gallery to view submissions from District One high school students.
This year’s competition is divided into seven categories: paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer generated art and photography. Awards will be given in each category and will be announced by Congressman Huelskamp at a reception on Sunday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m. at the El Quartelejo Museum and the Jerry Thomas Gallery & Collection, at 902 W. 5th Street in Scott City, KS. The Scott County Historical Society and the El Quartelejo Museum are sponsoring the award money for "Best in Show", 2nd Place, and Honorable Mention.
The winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year. “Every day I walk through the Cannon Tunnel of the Capitol Complex and see students’ artwork from across the country adorning the walls,” Congressman Huelskamp said. “It is a wonderful program, and I look forward to receiving new submissions from Kansas students.”
There are still tickets available for "Cool Shooz" this coming Saturday, 9 April 2011. The show will be a great time, so call the Scott County Arts Council for your tickets (872.5738)! The following is a note from Julie Mason:
"I just wanted to remind you if you haven’t seen the posters and ads that Arts Council is having a concert here this Saturday night at the Majestic starting with the buffet at 6:00p.m. We are sponsoring Cool Shooz. They are truly a fun group and sing all types of music accapella with no instruments. Their voices are the instruments. We had them here once before and they gave a wonderful concert. Tickets are $37 which includes your meal, the concert, and a fun night out on the town! Please tell anyone you know and invite them to come, too!"
Thanks for your support!
