Boy Scouts of America Exhibit

Boy Scouts of America - 100 years old

The Boy Scouts of America was organized in 1910, and Scott City's first troop was organized also within that first year of the BSA's existence.  Troop 149 was chartered in 1929, sponsored by the American Legion.

In 1934, R. B. Christy gave 40 acres of land near the Scott State Lake to build a permanent scout camp.

Other troops organized in Scott City include Troop 77, chartered by the Methodist Church, and Troop 58, chartered by the Church of the Latter Day Saints.

There were nine young men from Scott County who made Eagle Scout from 1934 to 1939.  A fire at the District Council destroyed all records previous to 1961, so there is a 22 year gap in the number of Eagle Scouts recorded.  El Quartelejo Museum is hoping to compile a list of Eagle Scouts from the 40's and 50's.  Can you help?
